Harmpton Wins the Exhibition Match!

Everything faded around O’Brian and he found himself waking up in his hammock. Lily was by his side, gently cleaning his chest with a sponge. She was naked as ever but he felt ashamed to even talk to her.

“Damn it all,” he wheezed. “Why didn’t I use my sword?”

“Hey, you took a world class beating,” the sweet woman said, kissing him on the cheek and pushing him back down. “Harmpton was one hell of a fighter. You did good, all things considered.”

O’Brian shut his eyes as he felt the pain in his torso grow worse. “I think I’m injured,” he muttered.

“It’s just muscle strain,” Lily advised. “You’ll be fine in a few hours. Mon’Sieur will make an ice bath for you. I fear our style of cleaning is a little much at the moment, but don’t worry about yourself. You survived the first week and that’s all that counts.”

“Hell no it doesn’t, you naked trollop!” Alamander said as he stormed into the Barracks. He was red-nosed and furious. “You tried to wow the crowd? Why not wow them without taking risks. Why the hell are you using your skills when they’re so low?”

“Just wanted to…” O’Brian wheezed.

“Hey, back off!” Lily thundered as she walked in front of Alamander, cutting him off from lording over O’Brian. “He’s not a prize fighter, just a gladiator for now! He wanted to try some things out. It’s not like Harmpton was going to kill him on purpose anyhow.”

“You better be thankful that I’m barred from killing in this world, else I’d kill you and then him, bring him back to life and then also you, then make you kill each other!” Alamander screamed as he stormed out, throwing his red hat on the ground. The hat remained still for a moment before growing a pair of spider legs and skittering out.

“Thanks,” O’Brian said and he put a hand on his burning chest. The bandages were keeping everything together but the pain was something else. “I can’t recall seeing him that angry before. Normally he’s just an ass.”

Lily gently rocked the hammock back and forth. “Get some rest. Don’t worry about that cranky old bastard. I’m sure he’ll die of gut rot anytime soon.”

“Maybe that would be ideal…” O’Brian muttered and darkness took him back once more, the sleep far less painful now.
